Welcome to Sikkim!
The beautiful hill state of Sikkim lies on the eastern tip of the Himalayas bordered by Bhutan, Nepal and Tibet. It is believed that the name Sikkim is derived from the Limbu word "suhim", meaning "New House" or "Happy Home".

Sikkim’s size belies the richness of culture, customs, heritage, flora and fauna which will enrich you. Sikkim is a small stretch of rugged land just 115 km by 65 km sandwiched between the kingdom of Nepal in the West where the Singalila Ridge forms a natural border and the Kingdom of Bhutan in the East. Towards its Northern border is the plateau of Tibet whereas in the South, the Tista and Rangit River forms a natural boundary with the Indian state of West Bengal.

Its size belies the richness of culture, customs, heritage, flora and fauna. In this small area of just 7,096 sq km – only slightly bigger than that of Delhi and its suburb towns – are wild animals like mongoose and the endangered red panda and a wide range of flora from primulas to the magnolia.

From the plains, a mere 80 kms as the crow flies, the altitude soars to pinnacle at 28,168 feet at the very top of Khangchendzonga, the third highest peak in the world.

There are three communities in Sikkim Lepcha, Bhutia and Nepalese. However all the different communities intermingle freely in Sikkim, and are seemingly inseparable to the visitor.
